Female Student Athlete: Jensen Hughes

Jensen Hughes just completed her 3rd year of varsity cross country for the Lady Bears team at Bear River High School.  Jensen is a senior and the girls’ varsity captain.  Jensen began her career as a sophomore and  an inexperienced runner.  Through a lot of heart and dedication Jensen has become one of the best distance runners in school history.  She made varsity at region all three years and also competed at state all three years, only one of 10 girls ever to accomplish this feat.  She medaled both her junior and senior years, helping the girls varsity to just their second ever Region title in 2015.  Jensen also had a break out season in track this past spring.  After battling through some tough   respiratory infections, Jensen surprised the field at the region track meet, taking runner-up finished in both the 1600 and 3200 meters.

Jensen is a super teammate and friend and has been a joy to coach.  Both Coach MacSparran and Line will miss her upon graduation.  Probably the highlight of her high school experience was being named to the 3A Academic All-State Cross Country team, carrying a 4.0 GPA.

I knew as soon as Jensen stepped into my Health class as a sophomore that she was a special student.  She always greets you with a smile and a pleasant disposition!   There is no question as to why she has accomplished so much success in cross country!  She has an incredible work ethic and the perfect attitude.  Every time I see her in the school she is either studying or running!  So if anyone ever wonders what it takes to be a successful student athlete they just need to follow Jensen around and it won’t take long to see!   She has taken numerous AP classes, Honors classes and College classes and has maintained a perfect  4.0 GPA  with a 32 ACT.  I think the thing that impresses me most however is just how humble and genuine Jensen is and like I said before never will she greet you with anything but a smile!  Jensen I wish you all the best and know with your hard work and attitude you will make everything you do the best!
