Girls Student Athlete: Kenzi Summers

Kenzi Summers is a scholar athlete who knows how to balance her priorities. She is a player you want to have on your team. Her competitive nature is fueled by her intensity to compete. Whether it is practice drill getting rebounds, or a region showdown, she loved the challenge. In practice Kenzi loves to be on the winning side, and players are at an advantage to play on her team.

Kenzi maintained high academic success throughout her education, and was always active in the learning process. Her GPA over four years of playing sports, and ultimately earning a scholarship shows her tireless commitment. In my class she was the opposite of a spectator, and would be the first to volunteer with questions and ideas.

Like so many other tremendous kids from Bear River High, Kenzi has handled her senior year with class and dignity. She has a world class sense of humor and keeps things from getting overly dramatic. She is an excellent team captain, and leads by example.

Coach Ken Oxborrow

It is nice to see someone you have worked with and watched grow up receive the accolades they deserve. I have had the pleasure of, not only teaching Kenzi Summers, but coaching her for three years. I can say she is a better person than an athlete and that is saying a lot as shown by her success. She played varsity for me from her freshman year on. I remember putting her in the game at the state tournament at a critical time as just a freshman and she turned the game around with her shot altering, shot blocking and rebounding. I believe had she wanted to she could have played basketball at the next level. She has, however, dedicated a lot of time to her first love, softball, and will be playing at UVU on scholarship. This just shows the kind of athlete and work ethic she has. Every student athlete who I have seen have great success has always had three things in common in addition to talent. 1) Great Attitude 2) Great Work Ethic 3) Supportive Parents. Kenzi has an abundance of all three. She uses these attributes to make her very successful in the classroom also as is shown by her 3.895 cumulative GPA. I want to wish her all the best in her future which I know will be a very bright future.
