Despite a 5-run deficit in the third inning, Bear River almost came all the way back, eventually falling 5-3 to Juan Diego Catholic on Friday. Bear River scored three runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Jarett Theurer in the third, a Makayden Kent HBP in the sixth, and a groundout by Kaygen Canfield in the seventh.
Bear River fell behind early in the loss. Juan Diego Catholic took the lead on a single in the second inning.
Juan Diego Catholic took an early lead in the second inning. With one out in the second inning Kolbee Gagon drove in one run when he singled.
Juan Diego Catholic scored four runs in the third inning. Juan Diego Catholic’s big inning was driven by a single by Cooper Rust, a fielder’s choice by Campbell Magraine, and a single by Colin Helgeson.
Magraine earned the win for Juan Diego Catholic. He pitched four innings, allowing one run, and one hit. Two relievers helped Juan Diego Catholic close out the victory. Dalton Gray threw two innings. Gray recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Juan Diego Catholic. Parker Coombs took the loss for Bear River. He tossed six innings, surrendering five runs, eight hits, and striking out four.
Makayden Kent, Jarett Theurer, and Kaygen Canfield each drove in one run to lead Bear River.
Phil Hamel led Juan Diego Catholic with two hits in three at bats.
