Sports are awesome in all their wondrous ways! It doesn’t really matter the season, it is always so much fun to watch the effort, sacrifice, teamwork, and the young athletes making plays and doing things that one would never imagine they could! The drama, the intensity, the rivalry, the grit and the grind are all part of what make high school athletics so intriguing, interesting and exciting to watch and participate in. Next up…Bear River Basketball! The team has been selected, practice has begun and hard work is the order of the day for 12 varsity/JV players and an additional 12 Freshmen/Sophomore players. Anticipation hangs in the air like a thick San Francisco fog as everyone is getting primed for a fun, if not demanding and challenging, season looms in the not too distant future.
Senior Jake Dahle and sophomore Mark Huber are the lone returning starters from last years team. Big things are expected from both of these outstanding players. Both are gifted athletes. Jake, a 6’3″ wing player and Mark, a 5’10” point guard, will be called upon for offensive production as well as leadership responsibilities. Jake averaged 9 points a game last season and Mark, as a freshmen, contributed 7 points and 3 assists. Both are good defensive players and Jake will be asked to carry a large rebounding load as well.
Jacob J.O. Olsen, another senior, is coming off a fantastic football campaign and should bring loads of athleticism and scoring potential to the team, not to mention his defensive tenacity and intensity. He is an electrifying player that should be a fan favorite.
New-comers Parker Coombs a junior, Ren Fonnesbeck, sophomore and Wyatt Roholt another junior saw some meaningful minutes last season and should be major contributors to this years team. All three are electric guards with great handles and shooting ability. In addition, all three can really shoot the ball so we are expecting them to have big nights in the scoring column. These three can also really play defense and add an element of quickness and athleticism that is exciting to watch. Kelton Summers, a sharp-shooting junior and Logan Litchford a strong and powerful sophomore wing player will round out our more-than-capable perimeter game.
In the post this year Wyatt Jeppesen, a big, strong and athletic 6’6″ player along with sophomores Tanner Orton, Keaton Riley and junior Ridgeline transfer Joey Litchford will make a significant contribution to the Bears defense, rebounding and scoring punch in the paint. All four of these players show terrific instincts in the post.
Bear River High School has a great basketball tradition forged through years of hard-work, dedication and sacrifice from grandpas’, dads, brothers, uncles and cousins. We are excited to strive to maintain the culture of excellence established here as we accept the challenge placed before us. We embrace the standards of excellence and vow to “DIG DEEP” to make BRHS proud this season.
Come out and support Bear Basketball and enjoy the excitement and pageantry that is high school sports!
