Boys Athlete of the Month: Braxton Buttars

Braxton Buttars is a fantastic student and Athlete. He started swimming as a sophomore. He has excelled in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and the 100 breaststroke. He has been one of the top three boys for our team the entire year. He has scored well in dual and invitational meets. Braxton was able to medal in the region in the 50 freestyle. He is a great person to coach because he always listens and tries to apply the coaching he is receiving. This attribute has been a contributing factor in his success as a swimmer.

Braxton has been such a great person on the team and swimming that he was chosen as a Captain. While captain he has helped to plan team dinners and team activities. He has tried hard to get to know each swimmer and make them feel welcome at every practice and every meet. He always has a positive experience even when dealing with a difficult situation and disappointments.

Braxton is also an excellent student. With all his responsibilities he has been able to maintain his 4.0 in school with a 33 ACT and made the academic all-state team. He is great in class and all teachers enjoy having him. He is willing to help others study for ACT test and for other materials for classes.

Braxton is a great student-athlete and is truly deserving of the honor of student-athlete of the month. He is a true example of what Bear River represents and what our athletes at this school are. He is a joy to coach and be around. I am confident that he will be as successful in life as he has been here at Bear River.

Head Swim Coach

What can you say about someone of Braxton’s caliber?  My wife taught him in French for many years and I had the pleasure of teaching him in Health so we have talked about what a model student he was several times.  He not only is brilliant, hard-working and talented but he has those intangibles that really set him apart from most.  He is humble, kind, caring and someone with high moral character.  I watch as he just gets things done.  He doesn’t need the recognition he just does things to the very best of his ability every single time.  It is no wonder, as Coach Esplin mentioned, that he has been so successful on the swim team and in the classroom.  If someone wanted to have an example of how to act, how to be successful and how to treat others Braxton would be the model they would want to choose.  Thanks Braxton for being an example to me and Madame Park and many others!  I wish you all the best in all you do!
