Girls Athlete of the Month: Madison Towne
Maddy started running track her junior year after coming to some indoor practices, where I was able to see how much potential she had. I also learned to never turn your back on her in a game of tag! She was hesitant about participating in track because of her commitments to dance, luckily we were able to work with her around all the dance lessons and competitions. She came out as one of the fastest 100 and 200 runners in the region and was one of the 200m legs for the medley relay which won every meet they ran in up to state where they took 3 rd.
Maddy is one of the most dedicated and hardworking people I know, in everything she does. Once she sets her mind to doing something there is no holding her back, she is all in, and strives to be the best at it. I don’t think she has ever finished a race where she hasn’t come to me saying she knows she can do better. You can see that same attitude in her classes where a 99% just doesn’t quite cut it for her. Her internal drive for perfection and happy positive demeanor will take her far in life. She has been such a joy to coach and have on the team. Her shining smiling personality will be missed by me and the team for sure.

Madison is the second child in her amazing family. Her sister won this award a couple of years ago and Madison carries on with the tradition of being an amazing ambassador for Bear River athletics. She just goes quietly on her business just being amazing without needing the fan fair! Madison is so kind to everyone and is so humble always thinking of others first.
She is also an exceptional student as she didn’t shy away from the most difficult and higher level classes while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I felt cheated when I didn’t get to teach her in Health but Madison still always went out of her way to say hi to me and always with a friendly and kind smile. As I observe her she does the same thing with everyone she meets. I can’t imagine how wonderful our society would be if everyone was as kind, thoughtful, determined and hard working as Madison is. If ever there was a student that represents what we want our athletes to be like Madison is that student. Thanks for being such an example to everyone at Bear River High School, especially me. I will look forward to watching you be a great success in everything you do! Just don’t forget us ‘little guys’ when you do become that huge success.
